Botanical garden is the favourite place of all Almaty inhabitants. Recently Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction celebrated its 75th anniversary.
            And today, we had a talk to the general director of Botanical Garden Sadanov Amankeldy Kurbanovich.

-       Amankeldy Kurbanovich, it is rumored that the Botanical garden is in extreme need of reconstruction and renewal of fund?
-       I wish to tell the following concerning the rumours. Plant introduction and acclimatization of animals are the processes close to each other. As a matter of fact, introduction is the scientific basis of plant domestication. After introduction tests, former wild plants from other regions and continents, take root in agriculture and forestry, and they are used in the field of gardening and so on. System reconstruction, renewal and replenishment of fund are the components of plant introduction. Therefore I consider the rumours about the reconstruction of the Botanical garden to be exaggerated. Though we have the problems with watering in connection with the construction conducted to the south of Al-Farabi avenue. However, by the decree of Almaty city Akim Imangali Tasmagambetov the means were assigned from city budget for the development of two deep chinks. I think and hope, that it will solve the problem connected with water famine in Botanical garden.

-         Are there any laboratories in Botanical Garden?

-        The Botanical garden is also the research organization and it is the guarded natural territory of republican importance. Therefore laboratories are the structural units here. The structure of Botanical garden consists of the following laboratories: Laboratory of plant introduction; Laboratory of gene pool and introduction of fruit plants; Laboratory of morphology and vegetative hemoplasms; Laboratory of population physiology; Laboratory of tropical and subtropical plants; Laboratory of geobotany; Laboratory of flora; Laboratory of vegetative resources.

-         How is the institute financed?

-         Basically our institute is financed due to the means of the state budget, but the institute wins grants or draws up the contracts with other organizations that makes up the source of income and helps us to survive in market conditions.

-         What kinds of expositions are held in Botanical Garden?

-         Collection of 4650 types of plants of domestic and world flora and hothouse plants is created in the main botanical garden of Institute of botany and phytointroduction. These collection funds are composed of medicinal plants, industrial plants, bearers and other plants of Kazakhstan, Siberia, Europe, Northern America, South America and Africa. More than 330 types of plants are introduced into the national economy of Kazakhstan on the basis of the introduction tests conducted in these collection funds. There is the exposition greenhouse consisting of 5 departments (palm trees, tropical plants, subtropical plants, hydrophytes and littoral plants) in the territory of botanical garden. In order to visit the expositions, it is necessary to cash the check in accounts department of Botany and Phytointroduction Institute and to get the receipt. Guides will wait for you at the appointed time from Monday till Friday.

-   Nowadays most of the organizations complain of the personnel shortage. What about your organization?
-        Certainly we have the same problem. Nowadays young people are not interested in science.
